Sjeng is a slavist and specialist in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Russian art; obtained his PhD from Leiden University. Former Artistic Director of the Netherlands-Russia year 2013 and Post-Doctoral Researcher/VENI Laureate at Leiden University. Leiden University.

Maria is cultural scholar specialising in the art and culture of Eastern Europe, Russia, and the Caucasus. Teaches Art and Politics at the University of Macedonia and is Artistic Director of MOMus – Museum of Modern Art – Costakis Collection in Thessaloniki, Greece.
