The Grant Program intends to:

HOW TO APPLY

The joint Grant Platform of MOMUS – Museum of Modern Art and the Khardzhiev Foundation supports research and scholarly initiatives in the fields of the East-European Avant-Garde, Russian and Soviet modernism, and related interdisciplinary areas.

Applications are submitted in response to the relevant Open Call and are evaluated by an international Scientific Committee.

Before applying

Applicants are encouraged to carefully review:

• the objectives and scope of the Grant Program;
• the specific eligibility criteria for each grant category;
• the application requirements and supporting documentation;
• the timetable and deadlines indicated in the relevant Open Call.

The platform currently offers three types of support:

MOMUS Fellowships

Research residencies in Thessaloniki, providing scholars with the opportunity to work with the Costakis Collection and Archive and the J. E. Bowlt & N. Misler Library. MOMUS Fellows will be provided with dedicated workspace at the Museum of Modern Art in Thessaloniki, offering an opportunity to work in close proximity to the Costakis Collection and Archive and the J. E. Bowlt & N. Misler Library.

In addition to pursuing their individual research projects, Fellows may, according to their interests and availability, have the opportunity to engage with other research activities of the Museum, including exhibition development, educational programmes and related scholarly projects.

Khardzhiev Foundation Travel Grants

Support for research-related travel, including archival research, fieldwork, participation in scholarly events, and other activities directly connected with an applicant's research project.

Khardzhiev Foundation Publication Grants

Support for the preparation and publication of original scholarly research contributing to the study and understanding of the Avant-Garde and modernism.

Where academically justified, applicants may be considered for a combination of grant types—for example, a fellowship together with support for research-related travel or publication.

Application process

1. Select the appropriate grant

Applicants should first identify the grant category most relevant to their proposed project and consult the specific requirements of the corresponding Open Call.

2. Prepare your application

Applications should normally include:

• a completed application form (available for download here);
• a project proposal outlining the research objectives, methodology and expected outcomes (up to 1,000 words);
• a curriculum vitae (up to 500 words);
• a proposed timetable and, where relevant, a research or travel plan;
• information on any other sources of funding or financial support related to the proposed project;
• possible supporting documents relevant to the proposed project. Additional requirements may apply depending on the type of grant. Applicants affiliated with a university, museum, archive, research institute, or other organization should provide an official letter confirming their current status or affiliation. Independent researchers who are not affiliated with an institution may submit a brief signed statement describing their professional background and the relevance of their experience to the proposed project.
  
  

3. Submit your application

You need JavaScript enabled to view it. before the deadline indicated in the relevant Open Call. A confirmation email acknowledging receipt of the application will be sent to the applicant.

Incomplete or late applications may not be considered.

4. Evaluation

All eligible applications will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee on the basis of the criteria specified in the relevant call.

The evaluation will take into consideration, among other factors:

• the scholarly quality and originality of the proposed project;
• its relevance to the objectives of the Grant Program;
• the feasibility of the proposed research or activity;
• the expected contribution to the field;
• the applicant's qualifications and ability to successfully complete the project.

5. Notification and implementation

Applicants will be informed personally by email of the outcome of the selection process following its completion. The names of the successful applicants, together with the titles or subjects of their research projects, will subsequently be published on the platform on the “Grantees” page.

Successful applicants will receive further information regarding the implementation of their project and the conditions governing the award.
